Introduce your students to the world of biotechnology through a hands-on, instructor-led STEM experience designed to simulate real-world bioprocessing in an engaging and age-appropriate way.
This 60-minute pilot program gives students a foundational understanding of how science, engineering, and living systems work together—while actively participating in their own experiment.
The FermIQ Bioreactor Discovery STEM Kit is a hands-on biotechnology kit that walks students through a scaled-down version of real-world upstream bioprocessing using three progressive labs.
Inside the box, students will complete:
Polymer Chemistry Lab – Explore how materials are formed by creating a polymer and observing how ingredients interact and change.
Yeast Fermentation Lab – Work with living cells to observe fermentation in action, including gas production and biological activity.
Yeast Process Development Lab – Step into the role of a Junior Process Engineer by testing, monitoring, and adjusting process conditions to improve outcomes.
Each lab builds on the previous one, guiding students from chemistry → biology → process control, just like in the biotechnology industry. Students record their observations and results using the included FermIQ Process Development Log, reinforcing critical thinking and scientific analysis throughout the experience.
This kit delivers a structured, real-world STEM experience that moves beyond simple experiments—introducing students to how biotechnology processes are developed, tested, and optimized.
